Sample Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival in Ulaanbaatar Arrive at Chinggis Khaan International Airport. Transfer to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar. Brief orientation and welcome meeting. Time permitting, visit Sukhbaatar Square and a local museum to introduce Mongolia’s history and culture. Welcome dinner featuring traditional Mongolian dishes.
Day 2 — Ulaanbaatar: Museums and Markets Visit the National Museum of Mongolia for archaeological and ethnographic exhibits. Explore a local market to see daily life and sample street food. Optional performance of throat singing and morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) in the evening.
Day 3 — Drive to Karakorum and Erdene Zuu Monastery Drive west to the ancient capital of Karakorum (approx. 4–5 hours by road). Visit the ruins of Karakorum and Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest surviving monastery complex. Overnight at a ger camp nearby; evening walk on the steppe.
Day 4 — Orkhon Valley and Nomadic Visit Travel into the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit waterfall sites and historic Turkic monuments. Meet a nomadic family, join daily tasks such as milking, bread baking, or herding demonstrations. Evening cultural exchange and traditional food.
Day 5 — Local Crafts and Felt Workshop Hands-on workshop in felt-making and traditional crafts with local artisans. Learn techniques used to make gers, clothing, and household items. Short hike or optional horseback ride in the surrounding hills. Overnight in a ger.
Day 6 — Natural Highlights and Free Time Explore nearby natural sites or take an optional full-day horse trek for those who wish. Free time in the afternoon for rest or to roam local villages. Evening campfire with stories about nomadic life and music.
Day 7 — Return to Ulaanbaatar Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. En route visit small towns and stop at cultural sites. Farewell dinner in the city with a program of traditional music and dance.
Day 8 — Departure Transfer to the airport for your departure. If your schedule allows, visit a craft cooperative or a museum for last-minute cultural insights.
